Atascocita Fire Department Ranks Among Best in Country

AFD/Community achieves ISO Property Protection Class 1 certification and joins top 1% of US fire departments

Atascocita (May 10, 2021) – On Monday, May 17th, representatives of ISO’s Public Protection Classification (PPC©) service will officially recognize the Atascocita community served by ESD 46 / Atascocita Fire Department, as a certified PPC Class One community.  A class one rating is the best rating offered by ISO and is reflective of a community’s investment in fire mitigation.  Insurance companies recognize ISO PPC ratings as a reliable indicator of future fire losses and therefore a community’s PPC class is a significant factor considered in the underwriting and pricing of commercial and residential property insurance premiums.  The bottom-line benefit to Atascocita home and commercial property owners is the potential for noticeable reductions in property insurance premiums.

Atascocita is a thriving suburb of Houston in Northeast Harris County, located just 15 miles from downtown Houston. Atascocita has enjoyed steady growth throughout the past two decades and as new homes, apartments, and commercial construction surge it is important that the community’s fire protection capability keeps pace with the growth.  ISO’s Property Protection Class rating of one should give the nearly 85,000 residents within the 15 established neighborhoods of Atascocita, a strong degree of confidence that their community and their fire department have their fire protection well in hand.

Nationwide, only about one percent of communities evaluated by ISO have received the certification of a PPC Class One Community.  The ISO Community Class Code Program assigns a ranking of 1-10 (with 1 being the best) to a community after thoroughly evaluating the community’s fire protection system. The four areas specifically evaluated are: 1) Communications systems, 2) Fire Department, 3) Water Supply, and 4) Community Risk Reduction.

The formal presentation of the ISO certification will take place at 7:00 pm at the Atascocita Fire Department’s administrative headquarters located at 18425 Timber Forest Dr., Humble, TX 77346.

The Atascocita Fire Department (a combination paid/volunteer staffed department) is an All-hazards emergency services provider delivering service to 25 sq mi of unincorporated Harris County.
