Atascocita Fire Department Provides “Stop the Bleed” Training to Humble ISD Staff

A new Texas law requires school districts to have stop the bleeding control stations on each of their campuses.  The Atascocita Fire Department provided a “Stop-the-Bleed” train-the-trainer course to dozens of Humble ISD staff members over the weekend.

Humble, TX. (January 6, 2020) - Texas school districts are now required to have bleeding control stations on each of their campuses as part of the state’s new “Stop the Bleed” law. 

School districts must comply with the law and have a program in place by January 1, 2020, under House Bill 496, authored by State Rep. Barbara Gervin-Hawkins, D-San Antonio. 

The bleeding control stations must be stored in easily accessible areas of the campus and security planning protocols must also include their use. Students in grade seven and higher will also receive training every year on how to use a bleeding control station. 

“The Atascocita Fire Department is committed to providing ‘Stop the Bleed’ training throughout the Atascocita/Humble community.  One very effective and efficient format for delivering these skills is through train-the-trainer courses at schools, churches and large employers, in which individuals get certified to teach the course to others within their organization.” Stated a spokesperson for the Department.
