Free Heart Screenings for Student Athletes
The Atascocita Fire Department is proud to provide medic staff and services in support of the Cody Stephens Foundation and the Mason’s Heart Foundation as they provide free heart screenings for student athletes this Saturday, October 19th from 8:30am to 12:45pm.
Humble, TX. (October 18, 2019) – Seldom do you hear people use the terms student athlete and cardiac arrest in the same conversation, but if you have it’s often because a preventable tragedy has occurred. The Cody Stephens Foundation and the Mason’s Heart Foundation were each created out of such tragedy and with mutually beneficial goals. These goals include, increasing the awareness of the potential for cardiac arrest even among the seemingly healthiest category of our population, the student athlete, and the easy and inexpensive screening process that can alert health professionals to those athletes who may have an elevated risk for a cardiac incident.
On Saturday, October 19th, these organizations are teaming up to provide free electrocardiograms (ECG) for student athletes in Atascocita and surrounding areas. The Atascocita Community Church at 17271 W. Lake Houston, Pkwy, Humble, TX 77346 has provided the location for the testing. The medic staff from the Atascocita Fire Department as well as other volunteering health professionals are providing and assisting with the ECG screenings.
Every screening performed has the potential to offer peace of mind, or the avoidance of tragedy. The Atascocita Fire Department is proud to be a part of such a worthwhile endeavor!
