Dr. Rich Gasaway visits Atascocita Fire Dept - Delivers Valuable Training

The Atascocita Fire Department promotes an environment of constant improvement in every aspect of its operations and this is especially true when we’re talking about the leadership development and growth of our firefighter and EMS staff. This week our members had the opportunity to interact with and learn from Dr. Rich Gasaway, one of the most respected and recognized experts when it comes to improving how individuals, teams and organizations make decisions in stressful environments.

During his time here this week, Dr. Gasaway delivered interactive learning experiences through his leadership training program entitled, “Leader’s Toolbox; Essential Tools to Survive and Thrive as a Leader”.

Industry-wide Dr. Gasaway is known for his weekly podcast, SAMatters in which he invites first responders to share their “lucky to be alive” experiences and then together they dissect what went wrong and what can be done to reduce the risk going forward. Valuable insights and lessons learned from Dr. Gasaway’s podcast interviews were shared this week in two riveting presentations:

- “Flawed Situational Awareness: The stealth killer of first responders”

- “In the Blink of an Eye: How quickly a firefighter can die”
