AFD Chiefs Interview on National Podcast - Share Mayday Experiences and Lessons Learned
Tuesday, January 7, 2020
When a Mayday call goes out on a fire scene, it means that a firefighter is in a life threatening emergency and needs help immediately. All other priority level tasks and communications become secondary and a rapid intervention process is initiated to rescue the firefighter(s).
Recently Atascocita Fire Department's Chief of Department Mike Mulligan and Battalion Chiefs David Roark and Brian Mulligan sat down for an interview with Dr. Richard Gasaway host of the nationally recognized safety-oriented SAMatters Radio podcast show (available on ITunes, Googleplay, IheartRadio, Stitcher Radio and YouTube). The show features close call survivor stories and shares lessons on how to improve situational awareness and high risk decision making.
In the course of the discussion, the Chiefs, who were all on scene during the Coaches fire incident, related their individual experiences during the fire and in particular during the mayday portion of that fire. The listeners to this podcast will no doubt appreciate the value of training and a well executed response as well as the importance of self assessment and the need for continuous improvement.
The podcast interview is scheduled to be released in three parts beginning on January 14th, January 21st and January 28th, 2020. To listen look for the SAMatters Radio podcast on Itunes, Googleplay, iheartRadio, StitcherRadio or watch on Youtube.
