Fire Destroys House In Atascocita - 19000 block of Sand Trap Court
Monday, May 18, 2009

Atascocita Volunteer Fire Department officials said five residents, including two young children, escaped from a burning 2-story home in Walden unharmed. Fire fighters arrived in the 19000 block of Sand Trap Court within five minutes of receiving the call shortly after 2 a.m. Sunday, May 17, and found the roof of the residence engulfed in flames and smoke. “All five residents of the home were outside and reported no injuries; they got out prior to the fire department getting there,” said AVFD spokesman Bob Kelshaw. “One fire fighter was transported to a local hospital, suffering from heat exhaustion.” Kelshaw said numerous fire departments from surrounding communities assisted in bringing the fire under control, including personnel and apparatus from Eastex, Porter, Northwest and Montgomery County fire departments. It took more than two hours to extinguish the blaze, Kelshaw said, and fire fighters didn’t leave the scene until 6:20 a.m. Sunday morning. “In my opinion, it seemed like the home is a total loss,” Kelshaw said. The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Harris County Fire Marshal’s Office.
