4 Alarm Apartment Fire

ATASCOCITA, Texas - Firefighters from the Atascocita Volunteer Fire Department as well as several other northeast area fire departments responded to an early morning blaze at the Sunrise Apartment Complex.

Nearly 100 responders battled the 4 alarm fire that has displaced dozens of residents.

According to preliminary information from the Harris County Fire Marshal's Office the fire is believed to have been started by a lightning strike.

The structure that was impacted has 24 units. However, as a precaution the adjacent structures were also evacuated.

AVFD has transported 17 adults and 5 children to the Atascocita United Methodist Church on their AMBUS where the Red Cross has set up a temporary shelter.

One firefighter was injured as the result of falling debris and was transported to Memorial Hermann Northeast in stable condition as a precaution. Additionally, one resident was also transported to Northeast.
